Walking in Burgundy 2008

If you are tired of sharing the crowded English countryside with thousands of other walkers, all searching for peace and tranquillity why not consider Burgundy in eastern France? There are miles of deserted tracks and bridleways for you to explore and enjoy even in mid-summer.

The Burgundy Experience and Susi Madron of 'Cycling for Softies' have put together a stimulating collection of short or weekly walking breaks based at Chateau des Pommiers. They include, up to five walks of varying length and difficulty, wine tasting and visits to local sites of interest. In the evening you can eat at the Chateau or you can choose to visit any of the excellent local restaurants. Full details from www.burgundyxp.com or www.cycling-for-softies.co.uk.

The region of Southern Burgundy offers a wealth of varied countryside. You may stroll through the wine growing region of the Maconnais or wander over the rolling country of the Charollais or Clunysois. To the south west of Macon there is the region around Matour and Tramayes which is known locally as "Little Switzerland." The walks around this region are a little more challenging but offer a wonderful variety in this rich and wooded terrain.

All our walks are of medium grade and distance and offer superb vistas over the surrounding countryside, together with comfortable lunch stops either on the hills with a packed lunch or at a convenient Auberge. We transport you to and from the start/finish points and on non-walking days will transport you to the local sights. Detailed IGN derived route maps and explanatory notes, are provided for each walk. Our guide Steve has almost 40 years experience of walking in the UK and Europe which will ensure that you enjoy the best of the Burgundy countryside.

Whether you are a novice or a serious and experienced walker we are confident that you will enjoy your stay with us.
